WASHINGTON D.C. (Northern News Now) - Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Monday the department is investigating allegations that Minnesota tax dollars were diverted to the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab.

Bessent announced the investigation in a social media post, saying the alleged diversion occurred “under the feckless mismanagement of the Biden Administration and Governor Tim Walz.”

The Treasury secretary said the investigation aims to ensure American tax dollars are not funding terrorism. He said the department will share findings as the investigation continues.

Bessent credited President Donald Trump’s leadership for the department’s quick action on the matter.
