A deal that Nexus Health leaders were pursuing with a Nashville, Tenn.-based health care investment firm apparently fell through last week, leading to company officials’ decision to shut down the Santa Fe clinic after the new year begins.
The New Mexican obtained a Nov. 25 email sent by Nexus Health President Dr. Scott Herbert to providers and staff members, indicating a team from Rubicon Founders had met with that firm’s investment committee a day earlier and decided not to pursue a deal with Nexus.
Herbert wrote Rubicon’s reservations about the deal seemed to stem from concerns the New Mexico market was too small to generate an adequate return on investment. Without Rubicon, he added, it did not appear Nexus had a route to move forward.
