OXFORD, Miss. (WMC) - Timothy Herrington Jr. entered a guilty plea Monday morning in the murder case for Jimme ‘Jay’ Lee.
“It does not matter about your sexuality. This was a life that was taken, and we need justice,” said TyCarlous Deberry with the “Justice for Jay Lee” movement.
Dozens gathered at the Lafayette County Courthouse Sunday night ahead of what they expected to be a second trial for Herrington.
But Monday, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
Herrington and the state came to an agreement on a plea deal. Herrington accepted a deal to lower his capital murder charge to second-degree murder.
“We knew the truth. It was written in Tim’s face every time. From the smirk through the lies, we knew the truth,” said DeBerry.
