EUGENE, Ore. - A major affordable housing project is underway in Eugene’s Whiteaker neighborhood. The Whiteaker Commons, a five-story building, will provide 120 affordable homes for residents earning up to 60% of the area median income.
“We felt that was an area that had significant need in the community and significant under-building when it came to the affordable housing that's needed to fill the need," Jason Lears, an advisor to Red Apple Square LLC, said.
The project officially broke ground with a ceremony attended by Eugene Mayor Kaarin Knudsen and representatives from Red Apple Square LLC, the developer.
