Milagro Cooper, a blogger, was found liable for defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and promotion of an altered sexual depiction, according to court documents.
“We’re thankful for the jury’s commitment to reinforcing the importance of truth, accountability and responsible commentary on social media,” Megan’s attorney, Mari Henderson, said in a statement. "This verdict sends a clear message that spreading dangerous misinformation carries significant consequences."
Megan and her team initially sued Cooper for millions in damages, but the jury awarded Megan $75,000. That amount was reduced to $59,000 by the judge. "I'm just happy," Pete told reporters as she left the courthouse.
