LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Mayor Craig Greenberg recently announced his midyear budget adjustments and is looking to reallocate money to initiatives like public safety.
One of his proposals is to spend $190,000 to establish a community violence intervention site in East Russell.
The city operates CVI sites in several neighborhoods, including West Russell, Taylor Berry, Park Hill, Algonquin and Newburg, and it's making a difference.
In the first half of the year, these sites saw a 62% reduction in violent crime, according to a recent report released by the Office of Violence Prevention.
CVI sites are not physical locations, but instead involve violence interventionists who are trusted community members who work one-on-one with people.
