On Tuesday, several lawmakers are expected to host an event to listen directly to people concerned about a light rail plan to extend the Blue Line from downtown Minneapolis to Brooklyn Park.

The project connects several cities, but would go right through North Minneapolis and disrupt some businesses, particularly along West Broadway, with years of construction.

"They're minorities, put it like that, they're minority businesses," said Ronald Carlson, who runs The Shop.

"Majority of what we do is make t-shirts for funerals, for basketball teams, for birthdays," said Carlson.

He opened his business 10 years ago and says it will be impacted when the Metro Blue Line Extension project is expected to begin construction on West Broadway in 2027. The rail line will use existing city streets
