RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Virginia state lawmakers will consider legislation requiring law enforcement officers show their faces during operations.

House Bill 7 , sponsored by Delegate Mike Jones (D-HD77) prohibits certain state and federal law-enforcement officers from wearing facial coverings.

Jones said the legislation is intended to specifically address ICE agents, who are known to cover their faces.

“Regular law enforcement officers that go out and serve warrants and police Richmond, they aren’t in masks. So why would someone from a federal agency need a mask?” Jones said.

If the law is broken, it is a Class 1 misdemeanor and the law-enforcement officer is subject to disciplinary action.
