A family was displaced and two dogs died after a house fire in North Bellmore on Monday evening that left two firefighters with minor injuries, the authorities said.

The fire began about 6:14 p.m. in the basement of a two-story, split-level home on Sacco Place, said Nassau County Assistant Chief Fire Marshal Bohdan J. Pilczak in a department news release.

One firefighter who responded fell "through a hole in the first floor" of the home, Pilczak said. That first responder was transported to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

A second firefighter suffered minor injuries after "partially" falling through the same hole in the structure and was transported to the hospital, according to the release. Emergency medical professionals tended to a third firefighter
