POLK CITY, Iowa —

A paramedic from Polk City is suing the city after being fired over a social media post about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, claiming the termination violated her First Amendment rights.

Paramedic Alissa Furry's lawsuit focuses on posts she made on her personal Facebook account on Sept. 10.

The first post said in part, "I really don't care that this guy died from gun violence." Two other posts included a quote and a meme. The petition states she deactivated her account soon after.

The petition argues that Furry's Facebook is personal and private, and that the post did not mention her employment or contain threats.

Furry is asking the court for reinstatement and damages.
