HERMANTOWN, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Law enforcement agencies around the Northland welcomed new K-9 officers while honoring some retirees.
The Northland K-9 Foundation held a ceremony with Hermantown Police and the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office to officially swear in three new K-9 officers.
K-9s Bruno and Kylo are now members of the Hermantown Police force, while Ollie was named a member of the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.
The ceremony then honored three K-9 officers who are retiring: Tuuko and Jack from Hermantown PD, and Donny, who was with the Sheriff’s Office.
In total, the three have served their departments for a combined 24 years, approximately 168 dog years.
Sergeant John Pernu was the handler for K-9 Jack for all ten years he served Hermantown, and says the event
