NEW ORLEANS — Frustration inside New Orleans City Hall hit a new peak Monday as a dispute over a key Revenue Estimating Conference (REC) meeting escalated into sharp comments between Mayor LaToya Cantrell and members of the City Council.

The council called the meeting after identifying what they say are nearly $75 million in potential revenue generators that could help stabilize next year’s budget without raising taxes. But the Mayor refused to allow Budget Committee Chair Joe Giarrusso to present the plan.

“There will be no presentation that is certified by this REC, and the numbers that are in it have not been verified or vetted,” Cantrell said during the meeting, adding that there had not been adequate communication with her administration.

The meeting adjourned abruptly at the mayor
