OVERLAND PARK, Kan. —

Crews in Overland Park are working long hours to dig the city out after several inches of snow fell to start the week.

Meg Ralph, a spokeswoman for the city, said about 170 employees are running plows in two different shifts to keep roads clear. Advertisement

“They have been working at it all day long, trying to get streets plowed,” she said.

A skeleton crew pre-treated major routes Sunday night, and many workers are highly trained for winter storms — preparation that began months ago.

“Coming off of a holiday weekend and a Monday. It’s a little bit much, right?” Ralph said. “With all of a sudden you’ve got 3 or 4 in. of snow out there, but this is what they train for.”
