The Claremont Police Department said the sheriff’s department is investigating the death of a man who died after "a use-of-force incident occurred" during a traffic stop with police officers last week.

On Friday, police received reports of a man acting “erratically and possibly under the influence of narcotics,” near the area of Claremont Boulevard and Andrew Drive, according to the department. Officers were then told the man had entered a vehicle and left.

Upon arriving to the area, officers spotted the man, who was later identified as Rancho Cucamonga resident Diego Alfonso Rios, and enforced a traffic stop. The department said he appeared to be under the influence of a substance and was asked to exit the vehicle,
