PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — Package thefts are already ramping up across the region as shoppers take advantage of holiday discounts, and law enforcement officials are warning the busy season for porch pirates is only beginning.

"Our little Grinch thieves are gonna be out wandering around, specifically, knowing the packages are gonna be delivered," said Deputy Carly Cappetto, spokesperson for the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.

In Pierce County, five package thefts were reported over the Thanksgiving weekend alone, according to Cappetto.

"It could be a gift for a loved one or a medication that you were waiting for, or medical equipment. I've heard it all," she said, describing the wide variety of stolen items.
