FOXBOROUGH — Struggling teams have a way of finding new methods of failing.

The 2-10 Giants botched a field goal attempt in a way that doesn’t happen often against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium . At least not when it’s not raining.

With 6:29 left in the second quarter of the Giants’ Monday Night Football game at New England, Younghoe Koo trotted out to attempt a 47-yard field goal hoping to cut the Patriots’ 10-point lead to seven.

But something was out of sync. As Koo strode forward to kick the ball out of Jamie Gillan’s hold, he somehow kicked the ground. He didn’t miss by a little either. Koo smacked his toe directly into the turf, a little over a foot behind the ball.
