Michaela Copeland, 21, will stand trial after she was charged with walking the wrong way on an escalator - a little-known offence outlined on Transport for London byelaws

A woman alleged to have walked the "wrong way" on a railway station escalator has appeared in court charged with a potentially costly offence.

Michaela Copeland was charged with "walking on an escalator in the wrong direction" at North Greenwich Underground Station on the Transport for London (TfL) regional railway network on Thursday, November 27. It has been alleged that the 32-year-old "used or attempted to use an escalator other than by standing or walking on it in the direction intended for travel".

It is not known whether she allegedly tried to go up the down escalator or down the up moving staircase.
