The cause of a fire which burned a historic rugby club to the ground has been revealed. Emergency services were called to Penarth RFC's ground at around 5am on Monday (December 1) after receiving reports that the clubhouse was "well alight".
The fire was extinguished by 8am but much of the building was destroyed, along with the precious trophies and memorabilia that were inside. Fire investigators said the "devastating" blaze which broke out at the club, which is also home to Penarth Hockey and Penarth Cricket, was caused by an electrical fault.
