Critics Warn the Move Signals a Retreat From HIV/Aids Commitments as the Administration Pushes Cuts
The Trump administration will not take part in World AIDS Day this year, breaking with nearly four decades of annual observance and prompting criticism from public health advocates and global HIV/AIDS organizations.
This stance is laced with irony since Roy Cohn, a friend who represented Trump legally and who acted as Trump’s political mentor, died of AIDS related complications after denying to his dying day that he had AIDS. Cohn’s AIDS memorial quilt panel says, “Roy Cohn. Bully. Coward. Victim” written on it, with “Roy Cohn” in black letters, “victim” in blue, “bully” in red and “coward” in yellow.
