FOXBOROUGH — Patriots linebacker Christian Elliss appeared to be positioning himself to wrap up Giants kick returner Gunner Olszewski in the second quarter, but the impact came faster than either player expected.
Marte Mapu was hitting Olszewski from one direction and Tomon Fox was coming back trying to block Elliss. But instead of pushing him away from his returner, Fox directed Elliss into Olzewski hard. Their helmets collided and the ball came loose.
The Patriots recovered and Olszweski left New England’s 33-15 win with a concussion.
Elliss said the helmet collision wasn’t intentional and his thoughts were with Olszewski.
