The poet Jan Richardson writes, “Blessed are you who bear the light in unbearable times…who bear witness to its persistence when everything seems in shadow and grief.”
Many of us feel like our world is shrouded in shadow and grief - and that underscores the need for us to hold up light for one another.
Her image of “persistent light” reminds me of the Olympic torch, carried across continents and countries by thousands of runners as a symbol of friendship and peace uniting the world through sport. The torch is carried through wind, rain and darkness, but its flame continues to burn and its light persists.
