A major car-sharing company has left UK customers disappointed after it announced it would cease UK operations. The car and van rental service Zipcar will suspend bookings after 31 December as the US company plans to stop operating in the UK. A spokesman said the exact timing is pending a formal consultation with all affected employees.

In an email to customers, General Manager of Zipcar UK James Taylor said: "Although we propose to cease operations in the UK, your account will remain open until the final decision is made following the consultation process.

"This means you're still able to use Zipcars until 31st December 2025."
