A security guard has been jailed after raping a student he offered a lift home. John Callaway, 43, lured the teenager into the back of his van before driving her to a derelict area and raping her.

Liverpool Crown Court heard how the victim, 19, had become separated from her friends during a night out on Monday, March 24, 2023. She found herself alone in Liverpool city centre where Callaway, of Shakespeare Close in Everton, was loitering at around 5am. He had been responding to security alarms being activated at business premises in the area before he spotted the teenager. CCTV footage shows him approaching her and remaining with her on a street corner for around 15 minutes.
