Former England and Hampshire batter Robin Smith has died at the age of 62.
A family statement confirmed that Smith had passed away unexpectedly at his home in South Perth, Australia on Monday. A cause of death is not yet known.
Widely known in cricketing circles as ‘The Judge’, the South Africa-born Smith played 62 Tests for England between 1988-96 and was part of the squad that reached the 1992 World Cup final.
Smith spent his entire 21-year county career at Hampshire, making more than 600 appearances and scoring in excess of 30,000 runs, captaining the team as one of their most influential-ever players before retiring from first-class cricket in 2003 aged 40.
