GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Make sure your money goes to a good cause on Giving Tuesday and not to a scammer.

Wisconsin officials are urging donors to do their research before giving on Giving Tuesday to avoid falling victim.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) says donors are more vulnerable to charity scams during the holidays, especially when faced with emotional or urgent requests for donations.

If you plan to support a charity, “Take the time to learn the organization and verify it’s legitimate before giving. Who are they, are they who they say they are, and you can verify this by asking for details,” said Michelle Reinen, administrator of the Division of Consumer Protection.
