An investigation into a suspected arson that ripped through a derelict grade II listed stately home remains ongoing nearly two months on.

Durham Police say they have spoken to "a number of witnesses" and have questioned a 16-year-old boy in connection with the blaze at Shotley Park in Shotley Bridge, Consett on October 5.

The building suffered extensive damage and at one point had firefighters from five fire engines using ladders to tackle flames.

The force soon confirmed the blaze was being treated as a suspected arson and a probe has been ongoing since.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Officers are continuing to investigate the incident; several lines of enquiry are being pursued and a number of witnesses have been spoken to.
