Record numbers of children referred for mental health support were refused treatment by CAMHS.

A total of 34.4% of those referred for support were rejected by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Scotland between July and September 2025.

It is the second month in a row that record levels have been recorded, with 31.8% rejected between April and June.

The last time referral refusals were so low for children was April to June 2014, where 30.1% of children were turned away.

Paul Sweeney, mental health spokesman for Scottish Labour called the figures "shameful".

Children can be turned away for a host of reasons, including their condition not being considered serious enough for treatment or because they were considered too old by the time they were due for assessmen
