NEW MADRID COUNTY, Mo. (WSIL) -- An elderly driver collided with a New Madrid County Deputy's patrol car early Monday morning on US Highway 61.

The New Madrid County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened shortly after 5 a.m. as the deputy was blocking a lane south of Highway 80 due to a downed power line.

The deputy’s patrol car was knocked into a ditch, but the deputy was unharmed. The driver was transported with minor injuries to a local hospital.

US Highway 61 was closed for about an hour with help from the Matthews Police and Fire Departments.
