GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Nine West Michigan schools across Kent, Ottawa and Muskegon counties have been added to one of several performance-based state watchlists, according to the Michigan Department of Education (MDE).

The new report includes five total Kent County schools added to the list, three schools from Muskegon County and one online Ottawa County school.

The new additions were released on Thursday, Nov. 20, part of MDE’s Michigan School Index report , an annual accountability measure to identify schools that need extra help from the state.

Two schools in Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS), Kent County and the region’s largest district, were newly added to the list, and one GRPS high school was among those removed .
