LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - ‘Giving Tuesday’ is a day when a lot of people decide to donate to local organizations and charities. This time also comes with the opportunity for scams.
It’s important to be cautious during this time -- and always -- when it comes to organizations asking for money.
Troy Baker with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) says there are a few ways scammers can deceive people in this sense.
A common way people get scammed is by getting calls from people claiming to be a charity when they are not. They can also get phone calls from charities that aren’t real.
Oftentimes, older individuals with more disposable income are the main targets of these scams.
Baker has advice for those who do get suspicious calls or emails on ‘Giving Tuesday’.
