If Michigan regulators don’t approve contracts to serve a massive data center for ChatGPT creator OpenAI and cloud computing giant Oracle within days, the entire deal could be off the table, DTE Energy argues.

The utility, seeking to massively ramp up its electric sales through the 1.4 gigawatt data center on farmland in Saline Township, continues to seek a fast-tracked sign-off on the contracts from the Michigan Public Service Commission by Friday, Dec. 5.

It has pushed back on requests from consumer advocates, environmental organizations and business groups to put the contracts , now made public only with significant portions redacted, under greater scrutiny.
