Ex-Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald looks like he may be returning to the coaching sidelines .

Fitzgerald, the popular and successful Northwestern coach, who was fired three years ago in a hazing controversy, is rumored to be returning to a head coaching role, and may be doing so at Big Ten rival Michigan State.

The Spartans fired their head coach Jonathan Smith on Sunday, immediately following a disappointing two-year run for the ex-Oregon State coach, and it appears it is Fitzgerald who they have targeted to be the next in line.
