When folks in modern America hear that the shooter of two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C., was an Afghan national who immigrated to this country--and apparently went berserk--many of us think: Why wasn't he better vetted before being allowed to come here? And we have other questions: Was he berserk when he was interviewed, if he was interviewed? Or did he lose it after he settled here? Did he come in on a wave of immigrants from that country, where he apparently worked with American personnel? Did he just fill out paperwork, or was there a face-to-face? And if he showed signs of being a danger to Americans during a vetting process, who's going to lose his job at State?
