A drug addict with 189 previous convictions for offences including shoplifting has been jailed for 14 months after admitting a string of further theft offences.

Thirty-nine-year-old Daniel Archer targeted the BP garage in Ipswich Road, Colchester ,on eight occasions between September 18 and October 11 and stole items including meat worth £450.

He had also stolen items, worth a total of £375, on two occasions from a nearby Waitrose store and had been confrontational and aggressive to staff, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

He also stole goods worth £37 from Tesco Express in Colchester, said Juliet Donovan, prosecuting.
