HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - A beloved former player for the Hartford Whalers revealed a cancer diagnosis.
Kevin Dineen, 62, posted to social media last week that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
“This Thanksgiving feels a bit different,” Dineen wrote. “A few months ago, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It has put a lot into perspective, most of all how lucky I am to be surrounded by so many supportive family and friends.”
Dineen said that he learned from hockey that no fight is faced alone.
“For anyone out there battling something heavy—whether it’s cancer or another fight entirely—I want you to know you are not alone," he said.
He did not share anything else about his diagnosis.
Dineen was a former captain on the Whales. He earned two NHL all star selections over the course
