A pedestrian died after being hit by a car on Interstate 64 early Tuesday morning, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash happened around 6:53 a.m. near mile marker 299 in Chesapeake, when a 2023 Honda Civic was traveling in the eastbound lanes and hit the pedestrian, police said. The pedestrian died at the scene and the driver remained on scene, according to a release.

The pedestrian’s identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.

No other information has been released. The investigation is ongoing.
