UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A Charlotte man is now in custody in Union County after the Lyft he was riding in was pulled over, according to the Union County Sheriff's Office.
The UCSO SAFE Unit was enforcing traffic on U.S. 74 in late November when deputies saw a silver Kia with malfunctioning brake lights. Deputies pulled over the car, and noticed the back-seat passenger wasn't wearing a seatbelt.
When asked to provide identification, UCSO said the passenger gave a false name. Deputies used a fingerprint scanner, though, and identified him as Eugene Boateng of Charlotte -- ultimately determining he had two outstanding warrants in Union County for trafficking opium or heroin.
Boateng was taken into custody, and brought to the Union County Detention Center.
Deputies got permission from the Lyf
