A wrong-way driver was charged with DUI over the weekend in South Windsor.

An officer who was in the area of Route 5 and Chapel Road spotted the driver going south in the northbound lanes on Saturday shortly after 5 a.m., according to Lt. Mark Cleverdon of the South Windsor Police Department .

The officer was able to catch up to the wrong-way driver and pull the vehicle over, Cleverdon said. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Aisha M. Haidara of Simsbury, was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, according to Cleverdon.

Haidara agreed to take multiple field sobriety tests, which she allegedly failed, Cleverdon said. She was taken into custody on charges of operating under the influence and driving the wrong way on a divided hi
