A 76-year-old man died Monday in a barn fire in northern Oakland County, Michigan State Police said.

Officials also said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Emergency dispatchers received a call at 11:50 p.m. Monday reporting a fire in the 9100 block of Kier Road near Bird Road in Holly, according to authorities.

Springfield Township firefighters, Oakland County Sheriff's deputies, and MSP troopers responded. Officials arrived to find a barn with an apartment located behind a home fully engulfed in flames, police said.

After firefighters extinguished the fire, state troopers spoke to the home's owners and learned that their uncle was in the apartment at the time of the barn blaze, according to authorities.
