How did we get into the political position that we are in? Close to half of the voters in Oregon are not registered as a Democrat or a Republican. So many people have said that they voted for a candidate because of that candidate’s position on one issue, in spite of disagreeing with them on something else.

And that is how we got President Donald Trump. Closed primaries encourage politicians to lean to the extreme edge of their party, leaving anyone who prefers a more moderate position with no one to vote for, or having to vote for the least objectionable person. That is how we got into the position we are in.
