Reading the article about Any Lucia Lopez Belloza, a 19-year-old college freshman, being picked up by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and deported to Honduras, a country she left at age 7, is heartbreaking ( “College freshman is deported flying home for Thanksgiving surprise, despite court order,” Nov. 28).

She was planning a Thanksgiving surprise visit with her family when she was caught in ICE’s net and had her life ruined — and in violation of an emergency court order prohibiting the government from moving her out of the country to boot. How did we get such a cruel, heartless government? Who are these people? Are we “safer” because of this action?
