Less than a year after it began enforcing what was supposed to be a strict law on acceptable forms of identification for flying, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is offering a way around the rule. Starting Feb. 1, travelers who don’t present an acceptable form of ID will be able to pay a $45 fee in order to board their flight, the TSA announced Monday.

Travelers who pay the optional fee will go through a new, modernized alternative identity verification system known as TSA Confirm.ID to confirm their identity. Travelers will voluntarily provide biographical information and submit to a biometric scan as part of the program.
