A minor tap from a pickup truck turned into a serious multi-vehicle crash on I-95 in Virginia Tuesday morning, sending several people to the hospital, officials said.

Virginia State Police said the hit-and-run happened around 8:54 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, in the southbound lanes of the interstate at the 120-mile marker in Spotsylvania County.

Troopers said the crash began when an unknown white pickup truck bumped into a Nissan Kicks. The impact pushed the Kicks into a guardrail, where it spun out and hit a Toyota Highlander, investigators said.

The Highlander was then struck by a tractor-trailer, according to VSP.

Two passengers inside the Highlander were injured, including one person with serious injuries, state police said. An occupant in the Nissan Kicks suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the white pickup did not stay at the scene. Troopers are asking anyone with information to contact Virginia State Police.
