SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - A new hearing was scheduled today for a former nonprofit spokesperson accused of kidnapping a woman and her newborn daughter.
Vernado Malone Sr., who once worked as a spokesperson for Justice for Michiana, had a trial date set for October that was canceled. He now faces a Dec. 18 court date.
Court paperwork alleges Malone approached a woman and her newborn daughter at Memorial Hospital in South Bend last July while posing as a consultant for a company called “United As One.”
Malone reportedly had the woman complete intake paperwork for services for domestic violence before taking the woman to a home in Hammond, which investigators say was actually his.
Malone also allegedly made sexually explicit comments toward the woman.
