BYRON, Ill. (WREX) — On the heels of winning the Class 3A State Championship, one of Byron's players is getting national recognition.

Senior running back Caden Considine is in the running for High School on Sports Illustrated's National Boys Athlete of the Week for the week between Nov. 24 and Nov. 30.

Considine ran for a 3A state championship game record 367 yards and three touchdowns in a 56-50 win over Unity on Friday .

Considine is one of 17 high school athletes nominated for the weekly honor. This week's candidate pool is made up of 14 football players and 3 basketball players.

Dane Eisenmenger, the senior quarterback for Unity, was also nominated. He threw for 540 yards, a new Illinois state championship game record, and seven touchdowns, in their loss to Byron.
