The search for a missing and undefeated Virginia high school football coach has now turned into a federal manhunt, with the US Marshals Service offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to his arrest.
Travis Lee Turner, 46, the Union High School football coach in Big Stone Gap, was first reported missing on Thursday, Nov. 20 in Wise County, where his undefeated Bears have rolled to a 13-0record under an interim coach.
His disappearance triggered community concern when Virginia State Police troopers could not locate him at home during an unrelated investigation.
According to multiple reports, including CNN and WCYB 5 (NBC) on Tuesday, Nov. 25, Turner is wanted for child pornography possession and other related charges. Both cases remain under investigation.
On Monday, the Marshals confirmed that he is wanted on the child porn offenses as they joined the manhunt for Turner.
Turner was described by state police as being 6-foot-3, weighing around 260 pounds.
He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, sweatpants, and glasses. Investigators say Turner was last seen in Appalachia, Virginia. His whereabouts remain unknown as drones, K9 teams, and specialty units continue to search the region.
His disappearance sent shockwaves through the community when Virginia State Police troopers couldn't find him at home in connection with an unrelated investigation.
While his vanishing act has drawn public attention, Turner was reportedly placed on administrative leave, as the case continues, making national headlines.
Virginia State Police are asking anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of Turner to contact Virginia State Police Division 4 at 276-484-9483 or email questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
