CANARSIE — L-LINE SUBWAY TRAINS have gone months without exterior cleaning, after a key washing station in the MTA’s Canarsie Yard broke during a summer storm, the MTA has confirmed. With no functioning washer, cars are running covered in soot and dust, with cloudy, streaked windows, prompting complaints from regular riders, particularly in the face of an upcoming fare hike in January, Gothamist reports .

Officials said the agency expects the washing station to be repaired next year, and that it is saving money by conducting interior cleanings only. Moving train cars 20 miles to use another washer would disrupt service and raise costs, the agency said.
