Chattanooga Public Works has blocked off a portion of East 11th Street after part of the Mountain City Stove Co. building collapsed near the intersection of Houston Avenue.

Partial building collapse

The Chattanooga Fire Department says the vacant building crumbled overnight or early on Tuesday morning.

"Building inspectors and the property owner will now have to work together to come up with a plan to make the building safer," says the fire department.

Houston Street will remain closed from 10th to 11th Street. Public Works asks drivers to avoid the area.
