CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - More than 30 first responders from several area departments participated in the annual Shop with a Hero event at Walmart in Cape Girardeau.

The event has been around for about 35 years.

We caught up with one of Santa’s elves who told us his favorite part about the annual event.

“Every year is unique, you know, we always have those handful of kids that are just overly joyful and excited to be here and that’s what we like to see. We like to see the big smiles,” said Officer Bobby Newton with the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

Kids got around $100 to buy toys or gifts.

The money was raised through local donations.
