GAINESVILLE — New UF football coach Jon Sumrall is expected to hire Brad White , a former co-coordinator at Kentucky, to head the Gators’ defense, the Orlando Sentinel has learned.

Contract details have yet to be worked out with the 43-year-old White who coached at Kentucky beginning in 2018, becoming defensive coordinator in 2019 while also coaching outside linebackers.

Sumrall coached the team’s inside linebackers in 2019-20 and served as co-defensive coordinator with White in 2021 before heading to Troy to become head coach in 2022.

Kentucky fielded Top 25 defenses in 2019 and 2021, and also in 2018 and 2022, when the school allowed an average of just 311.4 yards a game — ranking 12th nationally and the fewest under White’s tenure.
